Everyone is in love with Thesis theme. I guess its simply because of its customisation.
.-= Senthil Ramesh´s last blog ..Whats wrong with Mashable !! Or is it a CMS issue? =-.

Good advice, Jane. I never edit from the dashboard - always with an external editor and ftp the changes.

Chris, nice article, and I like what you've done with the site! :)

just one quick comment on your statement :

" For you experienced CSS folks, Thesis 1.6 now incorporates the custom.css, custom.layout and custom_function.php files right in the dashboard. It is no longer necessary to edit the raw files in your cpanel or through ftp."

i would qualify that statement for the php file esp for your readers new in coding. if you make a mistake in your code while modifying a PHP file directly in the dashboard, you will find your site becoming temporarily unusable when you view it. this requires you to ftp the file to your host to correct the coding and to have your site up again. if you are absolutely sure of your coding, then you can edit via the dashboard. i learned this the hard way when my site went away after an edit in the php file. i freaked out, of course.

i am very new in thesis and wordpress for that matter (2weeks) and learning (in a painful way) to customize my site. note that css, php, ftp were like french to me (and still are). so i do a lot of copying and pasting codes. learning the codes is really and will be beyond my comprehension. Thesis is cool when customizing via the dropdown menu and the like. But seriously, to style your site and be worth the money your spent for the theme requires coding. And coding? Hay, I almost gave up but persevered.

btw, you have a nice and clean site. if i can have it half as nice you have, i'll be happy. I am on my 3rd week tinkering mine (i have a full time job) and hope to publish the site soon.

have a good one.
