If you’ve followed my blog for a while you know that I’m a fan of PLR (Private Label Rights) as a starting point for writing blog posts, newsletters, ecourses and reports. My very best source of PLR is Nicole Dean’s EasyPLR. She just posted a video response to an inquiry about whether using PLR was ethical and honest.

I thought you would be interested in her answer. Well… yes, she is a bit biased I guess because she is in the biz. I, however, have to agree with her points. There is really nothing new under the sun as they say, so in a way every article written has probably been written by someone else. The value comes in the details, the varied viewpoint and a different way of saying the same thing.

Check out this video and see what you think. Is PLR Unethical? If you want to work smarter–not harder, I highly recommend EasyPLR for well-written and highly targeted articles.

OK. I’ll admit it. I’m a PLR junkie. I guess because of that, I have seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (to borrow an old Clint Eastwood movie). I suspect I am not alone. How many PLR articles, ebooks, websites, sales pages, squeeze pages, etc. are sitting on your hard drive? Private Label Rights (PLR) content is hot right now which means you are probably receiving tons of pitches in your email box to buy packs or join PLR membership sites.

PLR content is absolutely essential if you have several websites or if you need help keeping up a regular blog or to get some ideas for article directories. Here are a few tips to zero in on the Good Ones and avoid The Bad & The Ugly.

Know What You Are Getting

This seems rather obvious, but much of the PLR out there is sold in packs or through a membership. Unless you can see the titles of the articles, you may end up with some you can’t use at all because it has nothing to do with your niche or website. Your cooking visitors probably don’t want to go to your website to learn how to train a puppy!

Quality is King

You will need to rewrite the articles to some extent, but if they read like they were written by a 3rd grader and you have to totally rewrite the entire article, scratch that source off your list. After all, this content will be on your blog or website and will be attributed to you. Don’t leave your visitors scratching their head wondering if aliens had taken over your blog.

Deja Vu All Over Again

How many copies of that article were sold? Honestly, a lot of PLR will never see the light of day because people that buy it won’t do anything with it. However if 1000 other people signed up to get the same articles, you will need to have a more extensive rewrite so that yours looks unique. I suggest you stick with providers that limit the number of copies they are willing to sell.

Look For Added Value

People in the PLR business should be able to offer training on ways to use their PLR articles and ways to monetize the articles you’ve purchased. Some PLR sites will include recommended affiliate programs and training on how to use their articles to get the most benefits from their service. This would be especially true in a membership type program.

Here are a few Good ones I have found:

Easy PLR from Nicole Dean. Varied niche packs. Well written. Limited quantity offered. Free PLR ecourse to learn how best to use the content.

Private Label Central from Rosalind Gardner. Written by professionals in the field. Free PLR ecourse. Limited quantity offered. Sample article offered. Guarantee that they won’t first be posted to an article directory.

Product Review PLR from Lisa & Loretta. Full product reviews for use by affiliates. Limited quantity offered. 5 Pack offered free so you can see the quality. Many packs include “Buy Now”, “Ratings” and Twitter background graphics.

Get Original Articles Written from Joe Marsh. These articles are actually written just for you, so there is no need to rewrite them although you might want to add your “voice”. Sold in packs of 5, 10 or 20. You are able to provide targeted keywords and keyword density requests. If you will provide guidance as to how you intend to use the articles (blog, article directory, etc) and even on which website the articles will appear, you will get more useful articles.

Do you have a good source for PLR. Please leave a comment and let me know. I still have plenty of room on my hard drive

Here’s a great article by Jeff Herring for new bloggers about when to start writing articles:

Q: I’m just getting started in article marketing. My website is in development. Should I wait until my website is up before I submit articles so that I have a place to send people for my resource box? Or is there some other option?

A: If you don’t have your website up yet, don’t let that stop you from writing articles, and I’m going to walk you through several different things you can do.

Here’s a little insider tip. You can already begin to write your articles over at EzineArticles. Put them in draft form and save them over there for when you do have a website up.

What I do that saves me time is I write my articles right there in the submission field at EzineArticles. I don’t write them in Word and then transfer them over. They’re written right there in EzineArticles, and then you just save them in draft form for when you do have something up.

What I would rather you do is get at least one article in and accepted by EzineArticles even before you have your website up because every new person is added to that list of almost 200,000 authors over there, and you go to the back of the line. I’d rather you have one article accepted and up so when you do have your website up they can be accepted right away.

If you’re waiting on a website, I don’t know how you’re designing it, or if somebody’s doing it for you or you’re doing it, but there’s lots of ways you can get a web presence right away. You can get a Facebook page for free right away and send them there to get more information from you. The same thing with Twitter.

You can go to Ning.com and get a one-page little website put up for free and send them there. Whatever it is that’s holding up that website, don’t let it hold you up from writing articles.

Write them, put them in the draft section if you want, and you can also send people to a Ning site, to your Facebook site, all of that for free. Whatever it is, just start getting the articles out there.

And now I would like to invite you to claim your FREE Instant Access to 2 of my Instant Article Creation Templates when you visit TheArticleGuyBonus.com

You’ll get get two “plug-n-play” article templates – just plug in your info! And you will also get a 30 minute Audio Replay of a teleseminar about writing more articles in less time than you ever thought possible.

If you are just starting as a blogger or Affiliate Marketer, you are probably barraged with incredible offers to teach you everything you need to know to make millions of dollars in one day. So, who do you learn from? I found this article from Jeff Herring right on the point:

Practical Article Marketing Tips – How Do You Decide Who to Learn From on the Internet?
By Jeff Herring

One of the most important questions you have to answer for yourself as you build your business is who are you going to listen to and learn from in Internet Marketing and Article Marketing? This is especially true now with so many marketers vying for your attention and screaming “me, me, me!”

I have found that there are 3 types of “teachers & trainers” on the internet, and only one type is always worth following:

Type 1 – Someone who has read a book or gone to a seminar on a topic, has never successfully done it, and is now going to teach you how to do it. I recommend my RLH response here: Run Like Hell!

Type 2 – Teacher has successfully done what you want to learn, is going to teach you, but is no longer doing it. Approach with caution: while you might be able to learn some good tips and strategies, you will be learning what got them where they are, not what they are doing right now to be successful. You won’t learn leading edge new stuff.

Type 3 – Teacher has successfully done what you want to learn, is going to teach you, and continues to do what is being taught. With this kind of teacher you get it all: what got them to where they are, what they are doing now to continue to grow, and what are the new next steps and strategies to keep you moving forward.

This is the kind of teacher with whom I will spend my time and money. A great example is Alex Mandossian and TeleSeminar Secrets. TeleSeminars got him where he is today, he is my TeleSeminar Mentor and trainer to many others, and he continues to do TeleSeminars to build and grow his business.

My recommendation: Learn from and follow only those who have done it, are teaching it, and continue to do it in their own businesses every day.

This is why I created The Article Marketing TeleSeminar Club to train you how to build your business with Article Marketing & TeleSeminars: I’ve done it, I’m teaching it, and I continue to do it everyday, consistently bringing to the Club Members the leading edge strategies that I am using today to build my business with Article Marketing & TeleSeminars.

You can get the Full Story on the Article Marketing TeleSeminar Club and come on board for half price for the first month simply by visiting http://www.AMTeleSeminarClub.com

Jeff has been very successful marketing his business through article marketing. As his success grew he started a new business–teaching others to use the techniques that had worked for him. I was impressed that he was actually making money using the techniques he was teaching.

One of the key strategies is to repurpose your articles. In other words, take an article and use it for other purposes. For example you write an article entitled “7 tips to write a better article”. Then you make a separate article out of each of the 7 tips, then you combine the 7 articles into an ebook or ecourse. You might also create a video seminar from these same 7 tips. Each of the 7 articles can also be a subject for your blog.

The key is to offer your readers and visitors more in-depth information on a subject of interest. I was so impressed with his knowledge that I joined his Article Marketing TeleSeminar Club.

Every article needs a beginning, a middle and an end. The first and most critical part of this is writing an article title that is good enough to stop the reader in their tracks. If you fail in this then the rest of your article is irrelevant. No one will read it anyway.

Although you can write almost anything for a headline there are 3 main ways to write an article title.

The first tactic that you can use is the power words. Some words grab the readers interest straight away. The most well known of these is “free”. Other great words are “Discover, Learn, How to, Yes, Did You Know, Now, “. What these words do is create urgency, desire and interest in the mind of the reader. You see the power phrase or word and want to know more. There are many power words like this that will add punch to your headline.

The next tip is to break an article into stages or steps and announce this in the headline. This is the article headline method I use the most. I used this style for this article by starting the headline with the term “3 easy steps to..”. Other versions of this could be “5 tips to successful articles” or “The 7 best article headlines” People like knowledge broken down into manageable size chunks. Something about having a task broken down into small tasks appeals to most readers.

The final step is to be controversial with your headline. You will find some subjects where this style is perfect. You could say something like “Article writing is a complete waste of time”. The fact that you are being outrageous will get the readers attention. This way of writing an article title needs to be used with care because it doesn”t always sound convincing. The title is very important and you need to spend time getting it right first time.
